Approval For Lennoxtown Community Hub

A new Community Hub is to be built in Lennoxtown, East Dunbartonshire Council has confirmed.

The £5m facility will include a public library, offices, community spaces, NHS facilities and council services.

The project will be developed by the local authority's development partner hub West Scotland. Work is expected to begin in February 2015, after the current buildings on the Main Street site are demolished.

When complete, the two-storey building will contain three levels, with the lower ground floor consisting of an entrance foyer and employee facilities with level access to the parking area to the rear of the building.

The ground floor will have a main entrance on to Main Street and will contain the front desk, library and office, while the first floor will include office space, meeting rooms and health care use including GP surgeries.

Council leader Rhondda Geekie commented: "This is great news for Lennoxtown and reinforces our commitment to the area by providing vital public services at a local level.

"The new Community Hub will bring together a wide range of services under one roof to deliver a new, flexible 'one stop shop' approach to customer services to make it easier for residents to access and get information about a variety of different services.

"It will offer an exciting and innovative new way of delivering services more efficiently to our residents in Lennoxtown.

"The development of the new facility will see over £5m of investment by the Council within Lennoxtown and will assist with the regeneration of the village centre. We will work closely with hub West Scotland, the design team and the contractor, Morgan Sindall, to bring this new community facility design to fruition."
