A new housing development is being constructed in Dundee, under a partnership by Merchant Homes and Home Scotland.
A total of 38 affordable properties will be built in the Whitfield area, with Merchant Homes the contractor responsible for the build. The development will include a mix of two- and three-bedroom terrace and semi-detached homes, two-bedroom apartments and two-bedroom bungalows.
It is understood the two and three-bedroom homes will be made available for affordable rent.
Work on the first phase of the development is expected to be completed in Spring 2015, with total completion scheduled for late autumn next year.
The scheme is part of a wider regeneration plan for the city of Dundee, and new images have revealed what the future homes will look like for residents, as well as the location and surrounding area.
Alan Brander, Managing Director, Merchant Homes, is quoted as saying: "We're delighted to announce that the contract between Merchant Homes and Home Scotland is now fully operational.
"This is an exciting project for us and one which is well matched to our expertise. Our partnership with Home Scotland and Dundee City Council – who sold the land – will allow us to develop quality homes which meet the needs of local community.
"Our commitment to potential residents extends beyond bricks and mortar with the ultimate aim of breathing new life into this part of Dundee.
"Whitfield is undergoing major regeneration and we are confident our mix of homes will play a big part in the creation of a new community. Our vision for Merchant Homes is simple: to offer real quality homes that meet the needs of the community in which we operate – that's exactly what we plan to bring to Dundee."
David Zwirlein, Development Manager, Home Scotland, added: "As a not-for-profit housing provider, Home Scotland is focused on providing homes for those who need them and helping to build vibrant communities.
"We're looking forward to working with Merchant Homes and delivering these homes for local people on housing waiting lists."
Home Scotland is thought to have invested £4.2m in the project, while the Scottish Government has provided a £2.48m grant for the development.
