A new £20m care centre is to be built in Dundee, it has been announced.
The facility will care for the elderly in the area.
Funding for the community care centre has been made available under a larger £409m health infrastructure package from the Scottish Government, which will be rolled out throughout the country until 2019/20.
In addition to the centre, funding has also been secured to enhance in-patient facilities at the Carseview Mental Health Centre in Dundee, while new facilities for the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services are currently under development in the city and are expected to be completed by March 2015.
NHS Tayside will now undertake a series of consultation events with patients, families, carers, staff and local communities to ensure plans for the new centre offers the best possible care environment and improved models of care. This will include an options appraisal on location of the facility, for example.
Welcoming the investment, Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said: "This project will support the provision of state-of-the-art facilities to care for patients across the Dundee area and adds to the recent programme of significantly improving care services in the city.
"The £20 million investment committed by the Scottish Government is part of a £409 million investment across Scotland to deliver the highest quality of health and social care services. This government's vision is to deliver world-leading safe, effective and person-centred healthcare."
Bill Nicoll, NHS Tayside Director of Community Services, added: "We are delighted to see this level of investment for Dundee health services.
"This £20m funding will ensure that we can deliver high-quality care in environments which are fit to deliver modern day healthcare for our communities in Dundee."
