A redevelopment project between Taylor and Fraser and the University of Strathclyde has been completed.
The investment saw the university's James Weir building transformed.
For the project, Taylor and Fraser were appointed to carry out the comprehensive construction and engineering work for the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. The work involved installing new mezzanine floors within the building, as well as the creation of new research laboratories and teaching areas for the following fields: Nanotechnology, Microbiology, Dynamics Research, Hydraulics Research and Concrete Testing Facilities.
In 2012, the building was left badly damaged following a fire. Significant structural alterations were needed, while the mechanical and electrical services needed replaced. New plant rooms also needed to be reconstructed following the blaze.
Scott Taylor, Chairman of Taylor and Fraser, commented: "We are very pleased and proud that such a project as this has reached a successful conclusion. The James Weir building is most important to the university and it was imperative that the damaged area was not only brought back to life but was ready to meet the challenges of the future.
"Throughout the project we worked very closely in partnership with the university, particularly to ensure that the parts of the James Weir Building which remained in use were able to do so with no disruption.
"In many ways this project reflects what Taylor and Fraser has been doing for the last 105 years – providing a combination of high-quality engineering and construction services and we are delighted that it has assisted Strathclyde in moving forward with its educational facilities."
