Renfrewshire Council has said it is to host a number of rehousing advice sessions this week for tenants in Johnstone Castle.
The events will allow the local community to speak to housing staff regarding plans to demolish 48 blocks of tenement flats and replace them with new housing.
It is understood that tenants affected by the scheme are to be offered alternative housing as the regeneration programme commences, but in order to ensure tenants are offered suitable alternative accommodation, the Council has said it needs to speak to those affected.
Letters have been sent to tenants of the properties earmarked for demolition, encouraging them to attend the sessions.
The advice sessions will be held in Johnstone Castle Community Centre, on:
• Tuesday 23 September from 1.30pm – 6pm
• Wednesday 24 September from 1.30pm – 4.30pm
• Wednesday 8 October from 1.30pm – 6pm
• Thursday 9 October from 1.30pm – 4pm
• Friday 10 October from 1.30pm – 4.30pm.
Councillor Tommy Williams, Convener of the Housing and Community Safety Policy Board at Renfrewshire Council, said: "There has been a really positive response to the plans to demolish low demand tenements in Johnstone Castle and replace them with modern, family homes. We are now moving ahead to develop the more detailed aspects of the regeneration plans.
"However, there are a large number of people involved and it will take some time to rehouse tenants and demolish the existing flats before work can start on building new homes in the area. This will be a complicated process and so we are keen to speak to everyone affected by the regeneration plans to make sure that we have up-to-date information on their housing needs and have the opportunity to discuss rehousing options with them."
