Midlothian Council has unveiled its plans to create new homeless accommodation units.
The supported accommodation would be created following the transformation of two empty properties in the area, it is understood.
Plans for the initiative have already been submitted to the local authority and outline the benefit the units will have on the surrounding area. For example, the Council has said the construction of the supported accommodation will free up temporary B&B accommodation.
The empty properties put forward for transformation are Midfield House in Poltonhall, and Pentland House in Penicuik.
Councillor Owen Thompson, Cabinet Member for Housing, commented: "We want to consult with the local community and get some feedback on views on these exciting plans to free up existing empty council buildings and provide quality services for homeless households.
"Anyone can become homeless, at any point in their life for a variety of reasons, and these plans not only make use of empty buildings to help those most in need, but also free up temporary accommodation, which reduces costs to the Council and taxpayer on providing such accommodation.
"I would urge everyone, to turn up and get along to these informative sessions to find out more."
The Poltonhall information days will take place at Lasswade Library on:
• Wednesday 24 September – 10am to 12 noon
• Thursday 25 September – 5pm and 7pm.
The Penicuik information days will take place at Pentland House on:
• Monday 29 September – 10am to 1pm
• Wednesday 1 October – 4pm to 7pm
• Thursday 2 October – 2pm to 5pm.
