A new play area for Belleisle Park in Ayr has been approved by South Ayrshire Council.
The new play park will include wooden frame swings, slides, a mini-beast exploration table, wind chime orbs, sea saw, springy rides, music and adventure trails, a jungle climber, zip slider, a six-metre birds nest swing, as well as other new equipment.
In addition, the local authority has said the area will be landscaped and feature picnic areas and wheelchair-friendly wooden seating and tables.
Looking at other areas of Belleisle Park, a number of trees are to be cut down which are either diseased or have grown too big and have caused damage to the walled garden. Damage has also been caused to the retaining wall at the small rockery, and the local authority has said this section of the grounds will be closed to the public will repair works are carried out.
Jill Cronin, South Ayrshire Council's Head of Enterprise, Development and Leisure said: "Belleisle is a brilliant place, well known for its trees and wildlife and we want to attract more residents and visitors to come and experience it for themselves.
"There's a lot to be done, but we're determined to let this jewel shine again and where a tree has to be removed, we'll look to replant it.
"In addition, we'll be undertaking gardening, landscaping and a wide range of improvements to refresh and reinvigorate the whole area, including the fantastic new play area for young and old alike."
Norman McLean, Chair of the Friends of Belleisle, added: "Belleisle is in good hands and we're excited to see the play area getting underway. The comprehensive plans we have for the whole area are now swinging into action and the future looks bright for this fantastic park."
