Work on the scheme, which will cost £325,000 and be funded by SPT, will commence in the coming months, the local authority has said, with a potential opening date of early 2015.
A new 60-space car park will be created at the station on an area of empty land situated on Station Road. Improved street lighting, CCTV and cycle racks will also be installed under the project.

Michael McGlynn, South Lanarkshire Council's Head of Planning and Building Standards, said: "A park and ride facility with 54 spaces was initially created at the station in 2004. In the decade since, however, the number of trains serving Blantyre Station has doubled and passenger numbers have more than doubled.
"This increase in passenger numbers, although welcome, has consequently put additional pressure on parking capacity. This week's proposal – funded by SPT and to be constructed and managed by the council – will go a long way to boosting options for travellers using Blantyre for work and leisure."
SPT Director of Projects, Charles Hoskins, added: "Sites like Blantyre have proven vital in helping improve local public transport networks. It is great news that this work has been given the green light and we look forward to seeing the new enhanced facility next year."
