Plans have been submitted to create a new traffic route at a popular woodland in the Scottish Borders. The route, if approved, would keep forestry and recreational traffic separate, it is understood.

According to the BBC, the plans for Cardrona have been drawn up by Forestry Commission Scotland (FCS). They want to separate traffic at Glentress Peel, which welcomes more than 300,000 visitors each year, and say a new access point they have chosen is the best option.


Planning officials for the local authority are thought to be supportive of the proposed route, describing it as the "most appropriate available", however some local residents have opposed the plans. They claim that the access point will increase risks on the approach to the nearby Dirtpot Corner, an accident blackspot. Instead, they believe a different access point, such as opposite the existing Cardrona junction, would be more appropriate.

The Council is being asked to approve the submitted plans.
