Scottish Water has announced it has completed a £202,000 project at Aberargie.
The programme involved carrying out essential upgrades to the waste water treatment works (WWTW) in the area. Mackenzie Construction undertook the project on behalf of Scottish Water and built a new septic tank and associated sewer, as well as a new above-ground control kiosk.
The existing access road was also improved.
Graham Imrie, Project Manager for Scottish Water, said: "The completion of this upgrade in Aberargie marks another important investment by Scottish Water, which has been carried out to improve the treatment of waste water, ensuring the future integrity of our environment.
"In addition to the environmental benefits, the new solution will also create capacity for a population equivalent of just over 30 people in the waste water network. This will support ongoing development in Aberargie and will play a small part in helping the Strathearn area grow and thrive.
"Scottish Water is committed to protecting Scotland's natural environment and this essential work is part of the important maintenance and upgrades that ensure facilities like this are able to treat waste water and return it safely to the environment."
Councillor Alan Jack added: "This investment in protecting Aberargie's natural environment and continuing to serve the residents of the village is much appreciated. It's quite easy to take these kind of things for granted. Waste water infrastructure such as sewers and treatment play an essential role in protecting our watercourses and wildlife.
"This project by Scottish Water will ensure the septic tank and sewers serve the area for many years to come. It also creates capacity for developers who may want to build homes in the area which will help enhance the local economy."
