Plans For Urban Park In Glasgow

Proposals to transform an area of vacant land under a motorway flyover in Glasgow have been published.

The site would be located in the Port Eglinton area, between Pollokshaws Road and the A77, it has been reported. The facility, suggested by charity Glasgow Urban Sports, would turn the derelict land into a hub for skateboarding, BMX and free-running activities.

According to reports, the centre would make the most of the site and would be partly sheltered by the flyover, ensuring that the facility could still be used even if the weather is poor.

The scheme has been supported in the development stage by Creative Scotland, Transport Scotland and Glasgow City Council. If the plans are approved, it is hoped the local authority would formally support a future planning application.

The plans are set to go on display at The Lighthouse in Glasgow on Friday (18 July) until 10 August. They have been designed by Raydale Dower and Toby Paterson.

Mr Dower is quoted as saying: "The park is designed for people to use, not just to look at.

"We are consciously quoting from the best skate spots around the world and building in things like, back-yard swimming pool bowls, china town banks, and urban plaza design, with seating areas and landscaping for members of the local and general public to enjoy."
