The Glasgow Science Centre tower is to reopen later this month it has been confirmed.

The tower will reopen to the public on 19 July – almost four years after the structure closed.

Since its initial opening in 2001, the rotating tower, which stands at 416ft, has suffered a number of problems. As a result, the structure has remained closed for more than 80% of its life.

A total of £1.8m has been spent to repair the problems with the tower.


Once it opens, it will remain open until 2 November when it will close for the winter months.

Dr Stephen Breslin, Chief Executive of the Science Centre, is quoted as saying: "We have been working on bringing the tower back into operation for some time now and we are pleased that it will be open for visitors from both home and abroad to enjoy this summer.

"There has been a significant investment in the refurbishments and the visitor experience to ensure Glasgow Tower is a must-visit location for Glaswegians, Scots and international visitors alike."

It has been reported that the refurbishment of the tower has also involved the addition of a new interactive visitor experience area, as well as new technology in the viewing cabin.
