Plans to build the largest Passivhaus housing scheme in Scotland have been submitted by developers.
The proposals – for 10 sustainable and affordable homes – have been submitted by Craigmiller Eco Housing Co-operative. The development, if approved, will be located at Greendykes Road in Craigmiller.
Each of the properties are designed to Passivhaus standard which means they will use 90% less energy, helping to reduce fuel poverty for residents.
It is anticipated that the first residents will be able to move into their homes by Christmas 2015.
The project has been supported by City of Edinburgh Council and PARC Craigmillar.
Commenting on the scheme, Garreth Roberts, Craigmillar Eco Housing Co-operative, said: "This a great opportunity for Craigmillar and thanks to collaborative work with our partners in the private and public sector, the project has made real progress over the last 18 months. We are now taking significant steps towards realising this exciting new development."
John Gilbert Architects Director Matt Bridgestock added: "We are delighted the project has reached this important milestone and look forward to working with the group, and its partners, to create the largest Passivhaus development in Scotland. We hope this model can inspire others and be rolled out across Scotland."
Councillor Cammy Day, Housing Leader for City of Edinburgh Council, said: "The Capital Coalition is committed to helping Edinburgh become a 'cooperative capital', where the public will be at the centre of decision making on services such as housing and energy provision.
"The Craigmillar housing co-op is an excellent example of what we want to achieve and will contribute to the overall ongoing regeneration of this part of the city, helping to address poverty and to provide future opportunities for the children growing up there."
