A closing date has been set for the lease of Grade-A listed Westburn House, Aberdeen Council has confirmed.
Westburn House was constructed in 1839 and made of stuccoed brick. It also has a fine cast iron balustrade enclosing a verandah. The property, which is of single-storey, has a sunken basement and is in poor condition due to lying vacant for a number of years. It was previously used as a home, a tea room and nursery, and plans have been suggested to bring the property back into an economically viable use.
The site has been on the market since 2010, but since the beginning of the year, there has been a renewed interest, with the local authority receiving correspondence from a number of organisations looking to redevelop and lease the property on a long-term basis.
Aberdeen City Council's Property Sub-Committee has now agreed to set a closing date for the property.
Convener Yvonne Allan said: "I'm really pleased that we may soon be in a position to appoint a development partner and agree a long-term lease for Westburn House.
"It's an attractive and striking building designed by one of Aberdeen's most famous sons, which has lain empty for a number of years. It's a great shame to see a splendid and historic building, especially one in such an attractive setting lying derelict.
"I really am excited at the prospect of seeing it redeveloped and brought back into use."
The closing date has been set for 15 July 2014 at 4pm.
