Morgan Sindall Awarded £1.2m Contract

Morgan Sindall has won a contract to refurbish the Central Primary School in Inverness.

The contract, worth £1.2m, will see the two of the school's three buildings refurbished.

Work is expected to be completed by Autumn 2014.

Under the renovation, the interior works will involve changing the existing layout by removing and replacing some of the internal walls. The ground level of the building will be completely modernised for the pupils of the school, including new floor surfaces and doors in each classroom, and a new entrance at the front of the school. The exterior features and character of the school will remain the same. In addition to the above, a major refurbishment of the Doorways Unit – which provides out-of-school tuition to vulnerable children – will also be carried out.

Neil Duncan, Area Director at Morgan Sindall, said: "The surroundings in which children receive their education can have a huge impact on their achievements. These refurbishments will inspire the children of Central Primary School and modernise their surroundings, but will not take anything away from the historical characteristics of the buildings.

"We have delivered a large number of projects in the education sector and aim to make Central Primary School the best in the region."

Derek Martin, Head Teacher at the 272-pupil school, added: "This is a very exciting development for the Central Primary School community and Doorways Unit. The carefully planned refurbishment will keep many of the original features of these historic buildings, whilst providing modern facilities for our nursery classes.

"We are particularly pleased with getting our own school kitchen for the first time. I am grateful for the work of LDN Architects and Morgan Sindall, along with Highland Council colleagues, in keeping disruption to a minimum during this time. I look forward to a new school year with new facilities."
