Aberdeen City Council has said the final stages in the demolition of St Nicholas House will take place next week.

The building is the former headquarters of the local authority but is set to be razed to the ground.

The final phase of works will start on Monday (16 June) and will involve two nibbler machines being used to remove the remains of Broad Street and Flourmill Lane elevations.

The machines will pull away sections of the building and bring them to the group, while the same machines will also be used on the middle of the building to break it into two sections. This work will continue until St Nicholas House has been demolished.


For safety purposed, shielding has been erected at the edges of the site.

Following the demolition, site clearance works will then be carried out and this is expected to be completed next month.

Due to the work involved next week, Aberdeen City Council has said Broad Street will be closed between Union Street and Upperkirkgate from 7pm until 6am on 16, 17 and 18 June.

This is to ensure public safety, and an alternative route for the Broad Street closure will be available via Gallowgate, Littlejohn Street, West North Street, King Street and Castle Street.
