Tullibody in Clackmannanshire has been selected as the newest town to benefit from the Village and Small Town Centres Initiative.
The local authority has said the project will see the town centre regenerated.
Funding has already been approved for the scheme and it is understood preliminary developments will be focused around improvements to the Tron Court area. The Council will also work closely with local community stakeholders about the planned recommendations for the area.
The consultation is expected to commence this month, while the regeneration project itself will be undertaken over the next couple of years as the Council's business improvement programme – Making Clackmannanshire Better – progresses. The programme aims to enhance and improve what services the Council delivers, and how and from where it delivers them. It will enable the Council to better meet customers' changing needs, whilst also taking account of economic pressures and increasing demands on certain public services. Part of the programme has already allowed the initial phases of a pilot initiative to have been completed in Tullibody.
Councillor Gary Womersley, Leader of Clackmannanshire Council, explained: "Making Clackmannanshire Better is focused on creating services designed around our customers' need, to enhance the customer experience in dealing with us and help improve people's lives.
"The progress made during the initial phases of the Tullibody Pilot has helped us to identify where we should focus our efforts over the next phases. This progress has only been possible thanks to the commitment and support of the community representatives who have worked with us, and my thanks, on behalf of the Council, goes to them.
"As an integral part of taking developments forward in Tullibody, we are delighted to announce that the Village & Small Town Centres Initiative will be regenerating the town centre in Tullibody."
Janette McGowan, Chair of the Community Council, added: "Our community has waited a long time for news of real investment which will regenerate this area. Fit for purpose community, leisure and youth spaces, and a modern shopping area sits at the top of the agenda in our local Community Action Plan.
"Working in partnership with Tullibody Healthy Living Initiative, local groups and local traders, and of course Clackmannanshire Council through the Tullibody Pilot, we are delighted to be involved in shaping this community's future, now that capital funding has been secured."
