Residents of Peebles are set to make tracks in their brand new £4.5 million sports facilities delivered by GRAHAM Construction.
GRAHAM was on site for 10 months at Peebles High School creating a modern complex complete with a four-court games hall, general purpose hall, fitness suite and classroom, and associated changing facilities.
The building is complemented by a new 2G synthetic pitch, sprint track and long jump track.
Neil McFarlane, Regional Director at GRAHAM Construction said: "It has been a privilege to deliver this new sports complex for the pupils, staff and the wider Peebles community.
"The positive response already received is extremely encouraging for GRAHAM and Scottish Borders Council and we look forward to continuing this long-standing partnership in the future."
The sports centre will be available for Peebles residents to enjoy out with school hours.
GRAHAM Construction has a strong track record in delivering high quality leisure facilities with recently completed Kirkcaldy Leisure Centre, Aberdeen Sports Village Aquatics Centre and The Club at Gleneagles in the contractor’s portfolio.
Sporting stars and former pupils of the school Chris O'Hare and Jo Pettitt attended the official opening alongside staff, members of the community, councillors and other guests.
The project was made possible thanks to a £4,300,000 investment from Scottish Borders Council (SBC) and an additional grant contribution of £500,000 from sportscotland.
Councillor Vicky Davidson, SBC's Executive Member for Sport, Culture, Youth and Communities said: "Peebles is the biggest high school in the Borders and these new larger facilities will allow it to deliver the full PE curriculum to all of its students, something they struggled with before due to lack of space and an outdated building. "
Stewart Harris, Chief Executive of sportscotland, said: "It is wonderful to see the new facilities at Peebles High School officially opened, and I’m sure they will become an asset for the school and wider community."
"The revamped facilities at Peebles High will help to increase the number of children involved in sport and physical activity, as well as widening the sporting opportunities for clubs throughout the area."
