Calckmannanshire Council's ongoing commitment to the regeneration of Alloa Town Centre is reaching an important phase later this summer, with the completion of the multi-million pound redevelopment of the Speirs Centre.
The redeveloped historic Speirs Centre, which is a category 'A' listed building, will host an array of services including a new modern library, a customer service point for information, enquiries, bookings and payments, registration services, local and family history centre, local exhibits about the history of Clackmannanshire, backed up by modern public computers, wifi and self-service.
As the work enters the final phase of redevelopment, the interim library and booking office at the Speirs Centre will be closing at 3pm on Saturday 7 June and will be relocating to Lime Tree House. The new interim facility within Lime Tree House will re-open to the public on Monday 16 June.
Customers will iencounter a degree of disruption, but various measures have been put in place in order to minimise the impact of this relocation on users. A fines amnesty will be introduced, customers can borrow up to 20 items per ticket and there will also be no charge for using the request service - items can be sent to the library of your choice. A temporary home delivery service to the most vulnerable users of the Alloa Library will also be introduced.
Council Leader Gary Womersley said: "I am delighted that work is entering the final phase in the redevelopment of this iconic building. The Speirs Centre will deliver an improved customer experience and contribute to the ongoing developments within Alloa town centre. We look forward to the launch of the newly refurbished Speirs Centre in the autumn."
