An extension to a community facility in Boghall, West Lothian, has been officially opened.
The £2m project has been extended onto the existing Boghall Primary School, which has also provided the school with additional classrooms.
The new community centre includes changing facilities, additional classrooms, a café, an IT suite, public toilets, a family area, a meeting room and car parking. The café area is adjoined to an enclosed open-air courtyard garden. The community centre also provides a new home for the Boghall Drop-In Centre.
The design of the new wing also has green credentials, with the sloping roof above the reception and café are being a living, green roof with sedum planting, while some 100 photovoltaic solar panels will be installed and will help offset the electrical running costs of the building.
Welcoming the extension, Council Leader John McGinty said: "I was delighted to have been invited to open the new community wing at Boghall Primary School. Boghall Community Wing will be managed by the local people for the local community.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been involved from the project team to the local community and everyone in between as the completion of the facility was a real partnership effort. The community rallied round during the build process, with the Church and both primary schools providing space to make sure that programmes kept going during on-going works. The building is of a high quality design, fit for modern use, and the flexibility to meet future changes, which is incredibly important as the community grows."
