Following discussions with community groups, Dumfries and Galloway Council has said it is to postpone the closure of Kirkcudbright Bridge.

The closure of the structure has now been pushed back until the end of September 2014.

Initially, it had been said that the bridge would close for 11 days, starting on Monday 7 April.


Repairs to the bridge will commence after the Easter holidays and are expected to last for 14 weeks. The full extent of the repairs will, however, not be clear until the work progresses, according to the local authority.

In order to carry out the work, scaffolding and temporary traffic lights will be in place, and while access for vehicles and pedestrians will be maintained, delays are expected.

The Council has added that the exact dates for the bridge closure will be confirmed closer to the time.
