Lovell has been selected to deliver a £3m design-and-build scheme in North Lanarkshire following a competitive tender process.
The development will see 30 new council homes constructed in the Blackwood area of Cumbernauld. It will consist of 12 two- and three-apartment cottage flats and 12 three-, four- and five-bedroom homes, as well as new access roads, car parking and landscaping.
The scheme will also achieve Secured by Design accreditation, and the properties will be sustainable and energy-efficient, meeting the Scottish Building Standards silver sustainability level and achieving a minimum 'Good' EcoHomes rating.
Work on the project is set to start in autumn 2014 and take a year to complete. Throughout the construction process, Lovell will provide four jobs for local people, a construction apprenticeship and four work experience placements through the Cardowan Drive scheme.
Welcoming the news, Alan Taylor, Lovell Regional Director, said: "This development will provide new, high-quality council homes in Cumbernauld as well as create significant job and training opportunities locally.
"We're extremely pleased to be continuing our strong working relationship with North Lanarkshire Council and look forward to starting construction of these new homes."
Councillor Sam Love, Convener of North Lanarkshire Council's Housing and Social Work Services Committee, added: "Our new-build programme is making a difference to the lives of our tenants and improving the range of properties we have available for rent.
"To date, 237 units are completed, 55 on site, 105 at statutory consent stage and 35 out to tender. We're committed to delivering high-quality, affordable homes for our tenants and their families while helping to build new communities."
