Councillors in Fife have approved £10,000 of funding towards Collydean Community Connections for the construction of a play park at Ellon Park, Glenrothes.
The funding comes after the group identified a need for the old play park to be renovated. Since then, local children and parents have been involved in the design of the park and choosing the equipment that should be included.
A further consultation is to be held with residents before any work is undertaken on the project.
Duncan Mitchell, Manager of Fife Employment Access Trust said: "As a resident of Collydean I'm very passionate about Collydean Community Connections – a partnership project between Fife Employment Access Trust, Fife Shopping & Support Services, Glen Housing Association and Collydean Primary School. So receiving this funding boost for the area is fantastic news.
"Our wider project is funded by the Fife Health & Wellbeing Alliance and will be matching some of this funding with the Area Budget award to install Phase 1 of the play park - hopefully in May and we have the Territorial Army primed to help with the installation. Now we begin the task of fundraising for phase 2."
Chair of Glenrothes Area Committee, Altany Craik, added: "The fact we've been able to approve this funding brings this much needed local facility one step closer for the community.
"We're hopeful that the balance of £40,850 will be met by external funders and in kind support from Fife Council Parks Service."
