Two road closures are to be put in place in Wishaw from next week as streetscape works are undertaken in the town centre.
From midnight on Tuesday 18 March until midnight on Saturday 22 March, East Academy Street, between East Hamilton Street and Main Street will close for five days.
It will then be closed again from midnight on Tuesday 25 March until midnight on Saturday 29 March. Diversions will be in place for motorists.
The closures are essential in order to allow Scottish Gas Networks to carry out work to the gas pipe system in the area. The work is part of a £3m Phase 2 streetscape scheme for the Scottish town which will see environmental improvements works undertaken along Main Street. Other developments in the phase include removing the high step between the road and pavements, creating wider pavements, parking bays, installing new lighting and resurfacing the road.
Councillor James Coyle, Convener of the Planning and Transportation Committee, said: "To minimise disruption to people using the town centre, we are organising short-term road closures to allow aspects of the construction work to be carried out.
"We are working with the utility services to plan their work and make sure it is carried out as quickly and efficiently as possible.
"Although these two road closures follow quickly one after the other, it means we can reduce the overall time the road is closed to traffic."
MacLays Civil Engineering Ltd are the appointed contractors for the works.
