The latest phase of a multi-million pound regeneration project in Dundee has been approved, Home Scotland has announced.
Plans to build 70 new homes as part of the £38m regeneration of the city's Mill O'Mains estate have been given the go ahead by Councillors. The local authority voted in favour of plans submitted by Home Scotland which set out how the third phase of the redevelopment project will progress.
The application follows months of an extensive public consultation process.
Phase one of the development saw 65 homes created while phase two and three will see a further 140 homes built.
The Mill O'Mains regeneration scheme forms part of Dundee City Council's Strategic Housing Investment Programme and the Scottish Government's Affordable Housing Supply Programme.
David Zwirlein, Home Scotland Development Manager, said: "We're delighted the plans for the third phase of this regeneration project have been approved by the council.
"We completed phase one in 2012 and since then people have enjoyed living in modern comfortable homes. Phase two is currently under way and will tie in with phase three to see the completion of roads linking parts of the estate and the creation of a new village green.
"This planning approval puts into place the final piece which will allow us to complete what is one of the biggest regeneration schemes in Dundee. When all these homes are completed we will have replaced outdated housing stock with modern energy efficient homes which will help create a thriving community."
The homes will include one-bedroom cottage flats to four-bedroom houses as part of a £10m phase. Work on phase two of the scheme is currently under way and it is expected that work on phase three will automatically follow. It is anticipated that phase three will be completed by Christmas 2015.
The work will be tendered out through Home Scotland's development framework.
