Proposals to build new care homes in Fife have moved forward as the public shared their views on the designs of the facilities.
The consultation for staff, service users and their families, was held from 4 February to 18 February. The designs – for homes in Lumphinnans and Glenrothes – were based on those previously development for the new Kirkcaldy care home which were agreed in 2013.
Feedback regarding the new planned care homes will now be forwarded to the design team for consideration.
Commenting on the initiative, Executive Spokesperson for Social Work, Councillor Judy Hamilton, said: "By building these new care homes we are investing in care for the future, providing people in need and their families with choice and demonstrating our commitment to our local communities.
"We believe the new care homes will provide high quality care for service users and modern working conditions for staff. Lots of work is going on in the background to enable us to start construction in 2015 and I am looking forward to seeing the new care homes completed and in operation."
Councillor Andrew Rodger, Executive Spokesperson for Health, added: "While our main aim is to enable elderly people to remain at home and independent for as long as possible, the time may come when a person needs full-time care and support.
"I am delighted that the new care homes will deliver the physical means to give people a high standard of care now and in the future. They will provide new and modern surroundings and an environment that is safe and secure for services-users in all aspects of their lives.
"In addition the new care homes will enable Fife Council and NHS staff to develop new models of care and expand intermediate care opportunities."
