Plans to build 90 environmentally-friendly homes in Dundee have been unveiled.
It is understood Merchant Homes and Home Group Scotland will create a mix of both private and affordable houses and flats of mixed tenure. The four-acre site in question will be flanked by the Drumgeith Road and Summerfield Avenue, in the Whitfield area of the city.
For phase one of the project, the planning application seeks to construct 49 homes plus the necessary access roads, landscaping and drainage. The second phase would see an additional 41 homes built on the site.
Hypostyle Architects are working on behalf of the applicants, and in a statement, they said: "The site at Whitfield has been identified as a suitable location for residential development in keeping with the context of the surrounding area.
"The buildings themselves will be constructed to very high energy efficiency ratings, both in terms of excellent insulating values to minimise heat loss as well as efficient heating systems to minimise running costs and designed to reduce maintenance.
"The size and positioning of windows will give good quality natural daylight to all rooms.
"It is also intended to use rooflights to allow natural light to penetrate enclosed internal space such as stair corridors to the supported flat units, thus minimising reliance on artificial light sources.
"External walls will be timber kit construction utilising a sustainable material and shall be highly insulated.
"Materials used in the construction of the development will also have low environmental impact."
