The work, which will commence in the summer, will see an 80m stretch of road created on the northbound A71 Horsley Brae which will act as a 'storage lane' for those vehicles turning right onto Brownlee Road. It is hoped the move will reduce congestion in the area which causes problems during rush hour.
In addition to the above, an 'acceleration lane' will also be created at Brownlee Road which will allow two lanes of traffic to turn left towards Garrion Bridge before merging into one lane further along Horsley Brae.

Councillor Chris Thompson, Chair of the Council's Enterprise Services Committee, said: "This is tremendous news for anyone who uses this stretch of road on a regular basis. It allows us to move forward and approach SPT for the majority of the funding.
"It is proposed that both councils will contribute 25% each towards the overall figure with SPT providing the remaining 50%. This is an excellent example of partnership working between all three organisations."
The majority of the project will be delivered by North Lanarkshire Council, although South Lanarkshire Council will remain closely involved.
