The funding will be used towards a number of road, footway and street lighting improvement schemes in the area throughout 2014/15.
The investment is part of a Fife-wide £40m initiative which will see old street light columns replaced over an 11-year period. The project is now in its ninth year. The local authority is also in its third year of a six-year lighting efficiency project to replace 42,000 light bulbs will more energy efficient ones, at a cost of £8.7m.

With regards to this Dumfermline investment, key projects for the town include:
• The resurfacing of the carriageway and footway in Carnock Road
• Lighting improvements in the Abbeyview area
• Traffic calming measures in Pilmuir Street, near Queen Anne High School.
Welcoming the news, Councillor Pat Callaghan, Executive Spokesperson for Transport and Environment, said: "Everyone living or working in Fife will benefit from the £40 million investment in our street lights, and a further £54 million investment to upgrade roads.
"In Fife we're committed to investing significant funding to look after our transport network. This is vital for Fife's economy and will benefit everybody travelling through Fife for work, business and pleasure."
Helen Law, Committee Chair, added: "This is a great investment for Dunfermline. Transportation and Environmental Services is continuing to prioritise works that will have the most impact on our local road network, towns and villages for the money we have available."
