Work is to begin on a new temporary car park in Barrhead town centre.
The facility will have around 40 spaces and will located on the site of the former Barrhead Health Centre. It is expected to open by the end of next month.
The centre has been demolished in order to make way for a new Asda superstore development in the town. The provision of new spaces is designed to help ease pressure on parking in the town centre as some spaces have been lost due to the major regeneration work being carried out.
Last year, work started on a multi-million pound project to rejuvenate Barrhead, with the creation of a new £3.8m Barrhead Foundry at Barrhead Sports Centre, and a new £20m Asda superstore situated adjacent.
Barrhead Foundry will be a state-of-the-art community hub with enhanced sports facilities, first-class library, café, business and enterprise support, and flexible community and learning spaces. It is due to open later this year.
Councillor Tony Buchanan, Convener for Infrastructure and Sustainable Growth, said: "It's been full steam ahead on what will be our fantastic new Barrhead Foundry and at the Asda site - and it's now full steam ahead on this temporary car park.
"This will make a real difference and will help alleviate any difficulties shoppers, sports centre customers and town centre workers may have experienced.
"We've had very positive talks with Barr Construction, who are building the new Asda, and are delighted they are able to hand over the former health centre site to us on Monday.
"We fully appreciate that local residents will at times have been inconvenienced by the loss of car parking spaces and we thank them for their patience while we carry out this transformation of Barrhead Main Street."
The car park is to remain in place throughout the development works, with the area due to become a permanent parking space upon the completion of Barrhead Foundry.
