New Affordable Homes For Govan

Construction News Image
Plans to construct more than 70 social homes, as well as a new football ground in Govan, have been approved.

In a £9.3m project, Home Scotland received permission to build 71 homes in the Glasgow area. They will be situated on the current site of junior football club Benburb FC, while the club will be "transferred" to a new ground just yards away.

The affordable housing provider will invest some £9.3m to build the modern energy efficient homes with the football club benefiting from a new state-of-the-art synthetic 3G pitch, changing facilities and supporters' terrace.

The plans were approved by Glasgow City Council and work on the site could start as early as May. Glasgow-based AS Homes has been chosen to work on the development, while the Scottish Government is contributing £4.9m via Glasgow City Council's Housing and Investment Division.

The development is expected to take two years to complete and will see a total of 38 three-bedroom and 33 two-bedroom homes built. There will be a mixture of terraced houses, semi-detached houses and cottage flats. Seven of these will be specially designed for wheelchair users.

Stuart Dixon, Home Scotland Head of Development, said: "We're delighted that we've gained planning permission to build 71 new homes in this area of Govan. This is a development which will bring much needed social housing to the area and also benefit Benburb FC and the wider community by providing the club with a brand new pitch and facilities.

"There is a shortage of affordable housing in the area and these properties will provide modern homes for people who are on local housing waiting lists. The planning approval follows a thorough public consultation process by AS Homes and we look forward to getting on site and building these much needed homes."
