A regeneration project of Dundee's waterfront has won a national award.
The scheme, which cost £1bn and is a 30-year project, was chosen by a judging panel to be the winner of the economic growth category in the Placemaking Awards, run by Planning Magazine.
The Placemaking Awards recognise and publicise projects, plans, people and organisations that are making places better, and is open to individuals and organisations involved in planning, regeneration, economic development, urban design, sustainable development and community development.
Ken Guild, Leader of Dundee City Council said: "The competition was extremely tough with projects from all over the UK competing for recognition, so I am doubly pleased that our regeneration has impressed the judges.
"The fact that the Placemaking Awards showcases not just projects that have come to fruition but also ideas, plans and the people and consultancies behind them, makes this a particularly significant win.
"Recognition that we are creating a better place, not just now but also for the future, brings the work we are doing to a wider audience and creates a virtuous circle that attracts more prospective developers to the city."
The waterfront redevelopment covers 240 hectares of land, which stretches for eight kilometres along the banks of the Tay estuary. The wider waterfront area is also divided into five focussed zones brought together under a strategic Integrated Development Plan. To date, the project has redeveloped redundant rail yards and docks and re-organised the Tay Road Bridge landfall area to reconnect the city centre with the river and capitalise on its unique setting. The project is forecast to attract an extra three million visitors to the city and £1bn of business and leisure spending by 2025.
