A £10m programme of improvements to the Corsehouse Water Treatment Works (WTW) has been completed by Scottish Water.
The upgraded facility, which is located near Stewarton, East Ayrshire, will see more than 9,000 benefit as a result – namely, customers in the Stewarton, Dunlop, Lugton and Fenwick areas, as well as some rural areas near Fenwick.
The Corsehouse WTW project, which was carried out by contractors GMJV, included the installation of new primary filters to improve the removal of organic particles from water going into the WTW. It also involved improvements to the wash water recovery process and to disinfection control.
Jim Hassan, Scottish Water's water operations manager, said: "Scottish Water is investing substantially to ensure we deliver the sorts of improvements to our infrastructure that these communities need and we are delighted to have completed this major project.
"Thousands of people across these parts of East Ayrshire are now turning on their taps to the best drinking water they've ever had and our substantial investment will help ensure that customers continue to receive this first-class service for many years to come."
The WTW investment follows the completion in December 2013 of a £1.6m Scottish Water upgrade of more than 30 miles of water mains in parts of the area served by the Corsehouse facility, including Fenwick, Dunlop, Lugton and Stewarton. While in September 2013, Scottish Water completed a £6m project to upgrade more than 60 miles of water mains and provide more than 40,000 people in the Cumnock, Mauchline, Ochiltree, Logan and Skeoch areas with clearer, fresher drinking water.
