Plans to regenerate Kirkintilloch town centre have been approved by the local authority.
In a statement, East Dunbartonshire Council said the plans would breathe new life into shopping areas, parking and pedestrian links.
With the masterplan now being formally adopted, it has become part of the Council's Local Plan as guidance. A number of improvement projects have already been completed - based on previous consultation – with work commencing on further developments in the New Year.
Improvements to date include improved pedestrian links at West High Street, new and improved parking behind the Community Hub and Tantra, and a range of work on properties in Cowgate - from 21-75 - including canopies which were refurbished using high quality materials.
The projects currently being carried out or are due to be undertaken include a new public space at Barleybank, improvements to Broadcroft and Townhead, and a refurbishment to Kirkintilloch Town Hall. It was recently announced that the Council had secured funds to help restore the B-listed building as an artist, cultural and community facility.
Other projects continue to be developed, such as the re-design of Cowgate which will see a redress in balance between pedestrians and cars.
Commenting on the plans, Council Leader Rhondda Geekie said: "I am delighted this vitally-important project has reached yet another milestone.
"Kirkintilloch Town Centre is one of the jewels in the crown for East Dunbartonshire and we are determined to see it survive and thrive in what is an extremely tough economic climate.
"We have listened to our local Champions, traders, residents and groups, and have already completed a range of improvements which are helping to pave the way for even more good news early in the New Year.
"Like every town centre, Kirkintilloch has undergone massive changes in recent years, but it has great assets - and with them come great opportunities.
"The Masterplan is a good example of how we can work together innovatively and positively to help breathe new life into our town centres."
