The funding awards to be offered are:
- West Harris Trust (£50,000) who will build a Community Enterprise Centre that will provide business expansion, community businesses, a café and tourist facilities
- Co-Chomunn Eirisgeidh (£10,000) the community shop will see a new extension that will expand the range of local goods offered to locals and visitors
- North Harris Trust (£35,000) will construct three new business units close to Tarbert encouraging the community to prosper
- Horshader Community Development (£50,000) will build community food growing polytunnells and address Carbon emissions in the Dalmore, Dalbeg and South Shawbost area.
The first round awards are part of the Comhairle's community capital grant availability of £1.8m for community groups carrying out community economic development projects.
Councillor Archie Campbell, the Comhairle's Sustainable Development Committee Chair, commented: "In the Outer Hebrides our Economic Development service is available to help community groups who have innovative ideas for developing their community.
"With the quality of projects and high level of interest already demonstrated in the first round we are confident that significant projects will accrue in the Outer Hebrides."
