Councillors in Aberdeen have agreed to a funding request for an options appraisal for Grey Mill.
The Scottish Historic Buildings Trust had submitted a request towards the cost of an options appraisal for the oldest iron-framed mill in Scotland.
Yesterday (12 November), the Council's Enterprise, Strategic Planning and Infrastructure Committee approved the grant request of a £15,000 contribution towards the project.
The Grey Mill, which is part of the Broadford Works site, is considered to be the most important building at the site, which is comprised of the largest concentration of A-listed buildings at risk in the country.
The site, however, has lain empty since 2004 and is in urgent need of restoration.
It is hoped that an options appraisal for Grey Mill will lead to its regeneration.
The options appraisal includes a full condition survey of the building, exploration of potential end uses and users, design and estimated costs for potential uses, valuation, community consultation and the production of a final report.
The council contribution is now the final piece in the funding jigsaw for the options appraisal, having already secured funding from the Architectural Heritage Fund (£10,000), Historic Scotland, (£7,500), the Aberdeen City Heritage Trust (£7,500) and site owner First Construction Ltd (£7,500).
