The Highland Council has been offering local schoolchildren an insight into the construction industry.

Pupils from Ardersier, Auchtertyre, Carrbridge and Kirkhill Primary Schools took part in the Giant Tetrahedron, which is an exercise run by infrastructure, support services and construction group Robertson to help children learn about construction.

Armed with just wooden dowels, the pupils had to work together to build a giant structure measuring 4m by 4m by 4m.


Frank Reid, regional managing director of Robertson, said: "The children really enjoyed getting to grips with a big construction job and learning on the job how important team work can be.

"The Giant Tetrahedron exercise is designed to fit in with the curriculum and uses aspects of maths, science and design along with lateral and creative thinking. We hope it will encourage and inspire the builders and engineers of the future."

Chairman of The Highland Council's Adult and Children's Services, Councillor Alasdair Christie added: "What a creative and hands-on way this is for young people to learn about construction and the various skills involved. I'm sure all the pupils taking part in the challenge have benefitted from this opportunity and had lots of fun at the same time."
