Fife Council has said that the development of two new care villages for older people in the area have continued to progress.

At a meeting of the Council's Executive Committee, it was agreed that sites at Cedar Crescent, Lumphinnans and Napier Road, Glenrothes, were the preferred sites to construct care villages.

These will replace four of the local authority's current care homes; Jenny Gray (Lochgelly), Valley House (Cowdenbeath), South Parks and Alan McLure (both Glenrothes).


The decisions comes after a technical scoring exercise and public consultation was held over the summer which looked at a number of other site options. Both of the suggested sites can accommodate new care homes, day care facilities and extra-care housing units.

Councillor Judy Hamilton, Executive Spokesperson for Social Work and Health welcomed the decision.

She said: "This is good news for the communities in Cowdenbeath and Lochgelly area and Glenrothes. The new care villages will provide facilities for Fife's older people that are fir for the future and will provide a new model of care.

"Following today's decision, officers have been tasked with progressing detailed site investigations and plans in advance of planning applications being submitted."
