Turner & Townsend, the global programme management and construction consultancy, has announced its involvement as project managers for the newly-opened SECC Hydro national area in Glasgow.
Appointed in 2004, the firm has served as consultants to the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre throughout the projects' lifespan, as well as providing contract administration and infrastructure support for the new roads and utilities needed to support the venue.
The opening is the latest in a series of high-profile entertainment completions on behalf of SECC, following the Clyde Auditorium 'Armadillo' in 2008, and works to the original Glasgow Conference Centre.
Commenting on the project, Turner & Townsend Director Andy Outram, said: "As a £95m, 12,000 seat multi-purpose venue this has been a complex project to manage, requiring tough controls and attention to detail to assure success.
"As a result we are delighted not only to have been entrusted once more by SECC to deliver this innovative, state-of-the-art arena, but to have also met the challenging completion dates required to allow its programme of 141 concerts so far in 2014, to begin.
"Set to generate £131m for the local economy and be seen by the world during the Commonwealth Games, it is a significant build. And as a major UK venue it is rewarding to have our unrivalled experience within the hospitality sector, and understanding of its specific construction processes, make the difference during this three-year build."
