Spray Foam Insulation, a division of Eco Insulate Ltd, was recently recommended by BASF as their approved Foammaster Contractor for a development in Dumfries and Galloway.
Despite the properties in the co-ownership development being built to specification and relevant Standards, a number of the buildings were found to be affected by mould growth around the edges of the ground floor slab.
The condition was identified as cold bridging where the concrete face was exposed to the ventilated cavity between the brick outer skin and inner timber framed construction, and as a result, the Developer and Consultant jointly considered various options but decided on a cavity fill solution before contacting BASF WALLTITE.
It was agreed that a cavity tray would be inserted immediately above the slab and WALLTITE CV100 foam injected to a depth of 225mm. This meant 12mm dia holes were drilled at 450mm centres horizontally to ensure the injected foam would rise from the base of the concrete cavity fill, fully expanding to the underside of the cavity tray, leading to a fully insulated slab face preventing a cold bridge between the cavity and internal floor finish.
Colin Davidson, Surveying and Estimating Manager said: "This project required close co-operation from all parties involved to ensure the technical and practical aspects of the project were correctly implemented. BASF's Foammaster approved contractor scheme proved to be effective as the close link between material supplier and their contractor ensured that work was completed effectively and in a timely manner with minimum disruption to the homeowners."
