South Ayrshire Council has launched a consultation exercise regarding proposals to replace Ayr Academy.
The plans would see the school relocate to a multi-million pound, purpose-built, educational campus at the Craigie Estate in Ayr.
The campus will be delivered through the South West Hub, which was established in November 2012, with other local authorities, to deliver major public sector projects, including schools. Design consultants will be asked to identify the best site for the new campus within the Craigie Estate and to produce concept drawings, including road and infrastructure improvements.
The public consultation opens today (2 October) and locals are asked to share their views on the plans. In addition to the survey, which can be found on the council's website, the consultation process will include two public meetings.
The first will take place at Ayr Academy on Wednesday 6 November at 7pm, with the second being held at Holmston Primary School on Thursday 7 November at 7pm.
Councillor Margaret Toner, Portfolio Holder for Lifelong Learning, said: "This is an incredibly exciting project for Ayr and represents a significant long-term investment to provide a first-class, modern learning environment for all learners in Ayr and the surrounding villages.
"The consultation process is a critical part of this new development and the importance of a new Ayr Academy in the town, the implications for pupils, parents, staff – and our local communities – makes it vital we hear from as many people as possible."
The consultation will close on Friday 22 November 2013.
