  • £150,000 funding to develop additional targeted employability initiatives

  • £250,000 additional funding to support those affected by the so-called 'bedroom tax' and other aspects of Welfare Reform.

A further £150,000 has also been allocated to open up access to the 245 feet high Victoria Tower on Greenock's Municipal Buildings as a tourist attraction.

Council Leader and Committee Convener Councillor Stephen McCabe said: "I am delighted we have been able to announce this round of funding for projects that will make a real difference in Inverclyde.

"Despite the continued pressure on budgets, through sound financial planning and management we have been able to put aside much needed resources that can be targeted where they are needed.

"We have also decided to review and expand our popular summer playschemes and to provide another £100,000 for major aids and adaptations to support more people to remain in their own homes. This is a wide-ranging and significant raft of funding and it will benefit a great many people."

Each of the proposals will be subject to a detailed report to the relevant committee.
