Improvement's For Green Circular Route

The quality of Dundee's Green Circular cycling and walking route is set to improve with a proposed upgrade initiative.

The local authority's environment committee will meet on Monday (23 September) to consider almost £64,000 worth of enhancements for the 26-mile long paths which connect green spaces and parks.

Following a recent survey, improvements have been prioritised to reinstate a section of the Green Circular at Balmuir, near Trottick, which was damaged by flooding in December 2012. A section of the Core Path eroded by storm water in the same area at Balmuir will also be improved, forming a cycle path link from the Green Circular to the housing at William Fitzgerald Way. The surface will be finished with bituminous macadam to reduce future maintenance costs.

Environment Convener, Councillor Craig Melville, said: "The Green Circular is a popular facility for people to get out and about and explore the green spaces of Dundee.

"It encourages people to take healthy exercise and highlights the areas of beauty around our city.

"There is an ongoing effort to keep improving the Green Circular. I am pleased to see that this project would be carried out in line with the Outdoor Access Strategy and Core Path Plan, and to national cycleway standards."

Councillors will be told that £30,000 of funding would be available from Sustrans Community Links Fund.
