Scottish Water has completed an important water mains upgrade in the west of Islay.
As a result, the firm said hundreds of residents and visitors to the area are now benefiting from the improved water supply.
The upgrade, which cost £120,000, involved improvements of around seven miles of water mains and will provide up to 600 customers in the Port Charlotte, Port Wemyss and Portnahaven area with clearer, fresher drinking water.
It will also benefit visitors to the area, which doubles in population during the tourist season.
The investment, which also included cleaning the existing concrete and plastic pipes, follows the completion of a £4.6m upgrade to the Port Charlotte Water Treatment Works in 2011.
The work commenced in May, with the cleaning or swabbing of stretches of water mains which totalled about seven miles in length. It was carried out for Scottish Water by contractors Corrie Construction.
During the work, the affected stretches of water main were by-passed using a pipe at the side of the road on the A847 to ensure that the normal water supply to customers in the area was not disrupted, while traffic disruption was kept to a minimum.
Paul Morley, Scottish Water's water operations team manager, said: "We are delighted to have completed this important project in the west of Islay.
"Scottish Water is continually striving to improve our service to customers across Scotland and this important project on Islay is another example of how our investment enables us to deliver first-class services and value for money to customers wherever they live, in the biggest cities or the most remote rural and island communities."
Jane McKenzie, Scottish Water's regional community manager, added: "We did everything possible to complete this work as quickly and efficiently as we could and to minimise any inconvenience to local customers and road-users.
"We thank them for their co-operation and understanding and hope they understand that any short-term disruption will be far out-weighed by the long-term benefits our investment is now delivering."
