Balfour Beatty Engineering Services (BBES) has started work on a £2.8m mechanical and electrical services contract for the new Police Scotland Custodial Suite.
Hub North Scotland Ltd, the driving force behind the planning, procurement and delivery of community-based infrastructure projects across the North of Scotland, is responsible for the development of the new facility on the former Scottish Water site in Kittybrewster, Aberdeen.
The project includes a new 60-unit custodial facility built on two distinct levels, with secure elements on the lower level and a glazed office building on the upper level. As well as the custody suite, the development includes office space, a virtual court, an identity parade room and car parking.
BBES will supply and install mechanical and electrical services including ventilation, air conditioning, underfloor heating, cell sanitary ware, lighting and integrated security systems.
In order to achieve the anticipated BREEAM Very Good rating, sustainable solutions such as lighting control and LED luminaires have been adopted. This innovative project also uses BIM technology, which supports the customer's requirement for a modern facility, using modern equipment.
The cell service installations will be created by BBES at the Modular Systems+ off-site manufacturing plant in Wednesbury, before being brought to site. Use of Modular Systems+ ensures a safer working environment, increases efficiency and reduces waste.
Phil McGuire, Managing Director of BBES, said: "We are delighted to have secured this M&E contract for the Police Scotland Custodial Suite, which builds on our skills and experience in the custodial sector. We have recently installed M&E services at Her Majesty's Prisons Parc, Low Moss and Oakwood."
