A draft planning brief for a former jute mill in the West End of Dundee has received support from both the public and Historic Scotland.
Dundee City Council said the proposals for the Queen Victoria and Regent Works site was "universally welcomed" by individuals, businesses and interested parties who responded to the consultation.
Councillors will now be asked to approve the document to help kick start future development at the site.
The City Development Committee is due to meet on Monday (19 August) where it will be told that 156 homes and 34 commercial properties near the site were contacted by email as well as Dundee Civic Trust, Historic Scotland, West End Community Council, Community Spirit and the local Chapter of Architects.
At a meeting in April 2013, residents of the adjacent Coffin Mill/Pleasance Court welcomed the brief and hoped that it would trigger interest in comprehensive redevelopment of the site. Historic Scotland also welcomed the preparation of the brief agreeing that an imaginative, high quality design for the redevelopment could provide a focus for a facelift of the remainder of the site.
The planning brief suggests converting a section of the mill into a mixture of flats and/or houses using high-quality materials including stone, slate and cast iron columns salvaged from the site.
Covering around 1.5 hectares, the former mill is located at the west end of the Blackness Conservation Area. The buildings are also category B listed.
Will Dawson, Convener of Dundee City Council's City Development Committee said: "We had been well aware for some time of the public concerns about the state of the Queen Victoria and Regent Works site in Brook Street.
"In the past when buildings from our industrial history were empty for some time we found that creating a site planning brief laying out what we think the potential uses for such a building could be and how it could be done to incorporate the most interesting architectural features, generated interest among developers.
"I am hopeful that the same thing will happen here, particularly with the positive feedback we got when we consulted on the draft."
Built between 1828 and 1834, the two-and-a-half storey sandstone building was the world's longest operating jute mill when it closed its doors in 1990.
