New Floodlights Installed For Dunfermline

Fife Council has said Dunfermline will soon be boasting a new, brighter look thanks to improved floodlighting installed around the area.

The new lights are designed to enhance historic buildings in the city.

Earlier this year, Fife Council's City of Dunfermline Area Committee agreed to contribute £145,000 towards the project that has seen new lighting delivered around iconic buildings and land marks within the city centre.

The City Chambers, Glen Gates, Andrew Carnegie statue, Dunfermline Abbey and Carnegie Library are all now benefitting from the new uplighters that will showcase their historically significant features, as well as help to improve the appearance of the city at night. The newly installed lighting will also transform the tree-lined avenue leading to Carnegie's statue.

An official switch on is planned in the city next month.

Committee Vice Chair, Helen Law, welcomed the move. She said: "I'm delighted with the result of this investment which will help locals and visitors alike make the most of our city centre. We've got a city to be proud of and this project will help show it off to best effect.

"As well as improving the appearance of the buildings, the lighting will hopefully encourage people to spend more time in the centre of Dunfermline in the evenings and take advantage of everything that's on offer there. Local businesses should also benefit from the project."

Ms Law also paid tribute to the work and vision of the late Committee Chair, Councillor Mike Rumney, who had an active interest in the project.

She added: "Mike wanted the best for Dunfermline and worked very hard to bring projects like this one to fruition. He would be delighted with the result which is another big step forward in our bid to improve and enhance Dunfermline city centre."
