The scheme, which has a fund of £250,000, was established to ensure the survival of the most important buildings situated within the heart of the historic Scottish town.
This is achieved by making grants available for conservation and refurbishment works within the THI area.
Owners of the buildings are required to provide 30% of the project costs themselves, or from other sources of public funding if applicable.
Any work carried out which is funded by a grant must:
- Be on a project that has relevant consents, planning permission, listed building consent etc.
- Be restoration work or building repair
- Use materials sympathetic to the building and surroundings
- Be undertaken with respect for the character and integrity of the building or structure and of the area where it is
- Be carried out by contractors who can carry out work which meets the high standards of the THI.
The scheme, will provide grants of up to £25,000 for properties within the THI, with the total amount of funding available being £250,000.
Councillor Bill Grant, Economic Development, Tourism and Leisure Portfolio Holder for South Ayrshire Council said: "The historic buildings in Ayr are being transformed in many ways. Work has started on the striking riverside buildings that everyone sees as they travel into Ayr over the bridge, this is work that will restore them to their former glory.
"We have some outstanding buildings in Ayr town centre and I would encourage people to think about applying for a grant. The application form will ask for details of your project and then each application will be considered very carefully. Whether you own a property, are a tenant, a company, or a trust you can apply."
