Scottish Water is advising motorists in the Greenock area of road traffic management during the town centre phase of its major project to upgrade water mains.
The project, valued at £2.9m, will deliver clearer, fresher drinking water to more than 65,000 people and involved the upgrading of more than 27 miles of water mains across Greenock and in Skelmorlie.
The project will tackle the problem of discoloured water which has affected some customers in the past.
As a result of the work being carried out, road traffic management is required throughout the project and this is currently being arranged in consultation with Inverclyde and North Ayrshire Councils' roads departments.
Following an agreement with Inverclyde Council's roads department, Scottish Water has said a road closure is required at Drumfrochar Road. The closure will will start from No. 109 to the entrance to Wellington Park and will be in place until Sunday 11 August.
Baker Street between Drumfrochar Road and Ingleston Street will also be closed for four weeks from Monday 12 August until Friday 6 September.
Local diversions will be in operation via Regent Street, Roxburgh Street, Bank Street, Dempster Street, Murdieston Street and Cornhaddock Street and vice-versa, while commercial premises in the area will be operating on a business-as-usual basis.
The project, which commenced in October 2012, involves the relining of 18 miles of mains, the cleaning and swabbing of about eight miles of mains and the replacement of about one mile of mains.
Mr Mark Maclaren, Scottish Water's regional community manager for Inverclyde, said: "We would like to thank affected customers and road users for their cooperation and patience while we carry out this important work and we apologise for any inconvenience.
"These road traffic measures will inevitably cause some inconvenience to traffic in Greenock but we hope road-users will appreciate that this short-term inconvenience will be far out-weighed by the long-term benefits our investment will deliver."
