Scottish Water Completes Nairn Upgrade

Construction News Image
More than 8,400 people in Nairn are now benefiting from the completion of an important project by Scottish Water.

The project not only upgraded the existing waste water network, but will protect the surrounding environment.

The organisation has invested £1.5m into the project, which has involved the refurbishment of the waste water pumping station at Harbour Road, Nairn. Additional capital maintenance work has also been carried out at the Nairn Waste Water Treatment Works (WWTW), encompassing the investment Scottish Water has made.

The work commenced in April 2012 and was undertaken by Scottish Water contractors, Ross-shire Engineering Ltd. The existing pumps were replaced as part of the project and a new powered screen was installed.

Archie Campbell, Project Manager for Scottish Water Solutions, said: "The refurbishment of Nairn's waste water network marks the completion of another vital project, ensuring Scottish Water continues to deliver a first class service to its customers.

"This particular project also demonstrates our commitment in playing a key role in protecting Scotland's natural environment.

"On behalf of Scottish Water would like to thank the local community for their patience and co-operation while this important project was carried out. There may have been some local disruption to traffic while the new storage manhole was installed but we worked closely with the council to ensure disruption was kept to a minimum level."

Scottish Water has previously said it is investing heavily in the Highlands region between 2010 and 2015.

A total of £145m is being spent, with almost half of the investment going to improving drinking water quality. A large amount of the fund is towards promoting growth in the region by increasing the capacity of water and waste water treatment works to accept more connections and enable developers to work free from constraints on capacity."
